Hydratight praised for bespoke subsea bolting completion
Hydratight has recently finished a bespoke subsea bolting project, requiring the design and development of custom-made tensioners. The project was completed in such an accurate and efficient manner as a result of the cooperation that exists between Hydratight offices across international boundaries.
The Hydratight team in the United Arab Emirates were first contacted by the client regarding subsea bolting and flange-pulling equipment. As the customer was unable to give exact measurements at the time, the UAE Hydratight team made it their first priority to contact the client's engineers. Following this initiative move, a complete technical study was undertaken which highlighted the necessary specifications for the project.
As a result of this report, Hydratight found that the client was in need of Aquajack subsea tensioners. However, it was also apparent that these would be required in a non-standard size. This meant that UK engineers had to work efficiently to design sheets and partner with flange manufacturers to ensure that the bespoke subsea bolting equipment would fit into the highly restrictive space.
Just two months after the initial consultation, the client was able to begin using the bespoke bolting tools. Alongside the original project, Hydratight was also given a further order from the client for special calibration equipment, which was developed and supplied by the Saudi office. Hydratight was also required to provide a team to take on the work, guaranteeing that the subsea engineering was performed in a competent manner.
The intercommunication and collaboration between Hydratight teams across international boundaries helped to ensure that the project was completed to such a high standard. PCA Mohan, regional managing director at Hydratight, said: "The client was extremely pleased with the speed and success of the project." He went on to say that: "It was possible because even though Hydratight is a global company, with many regional centres, we act like one big team."
