A host of exciting new facilities is to be created at Manchester Business School, as office space company Bruntwood goes into partnership with well-respected academic centre The University Of Manchester.

The Oxford Road corridor is the primary focus of Manchester's educational community and is well-situated for transport, making it an ideal location for the £60m project, which will feature a hotel and large-scale learning centres.

The construction schedule will happen in four phases, with the first beginning in 2012, creating conference facilities and a four-star hotel. Phases two and three will include homes for administrative staff and students taking part in programmes such as MBAs and Executive Education; and phase four will incorporate the building of a learning and resources facility.

Manchester Business School's population of students is growing continually larger and it is important that its facilities can cater for demand according to its high standards, as well as enabling it to continue delivering management and leadership courses for BAE, Tesco, BT and other large companies.

Manchester is home to many businesses which use office space to rent in the city, so the new facilities will also represent more choice for their visitors by providing high-quality accommodation and development resources.

Dean of Manchester Business School, Professor Michael Luger, said: "We are delighted to be working with Bruntwood on what will be a flagship investment for the city of Manchester."

He added: "Our ethos is about applying original thinking to make positive change and the new building, funded in part through pledges in excess of £2m from alumni of the School and local philanthropists, echoes this philosophy – both in its design and function."

Manchester Business School offers the opportunity to study for MBAs, management qualifications and masters degrees, for which it is very highly renowned. Its popularity means that every year it is educating more and more students from across the UK and other nations.

Colin Sinclair, Director of Special Projects at Bruntwood, said: "Bruntwood is delighted to have been chosen to redevelop Manchester Business School and is looking forward to working with the University of Manchester and MBS to deliver a world class facility."
