Charity cycle ride organised by Bruntwood
A charity cycle ride was held last weekend in Greater Manchester, which was organised and funded by family-owned commercial property company Bruntwood.
2011 is the 3rd year running of the Bruntwood Ellipse Charity Cycle Ride. After the huge success of last year's Ellipse, Bruntwood asked employees and the public to get on their bikes once more on Sunday 18th September 2011. Participants had the choice of three cycle challenges, in aid of Bruntwood's new sponsored charities Onside and the Factory.
Having fun, keeping healthy and making a difference are the ideals behind the Bruntwood Ellipse. The event is suitable for all levels of cycling enthusiasts, with the main challenge consisting of a 55 mile cycle track through the breathtaking scenery of the Peak District. Instead, cyclists could opt for the Mini Ellipse, a more gentle 20 mile cycle through the leafy lanes of Cheshire, or a 10 mile family ride through beautiful Knutsford.
All routes started and finished at Booths Hall in Knutsford, where Bruntwood has Greater Manchester office space and meeting rooms to let. The wonderful day out was given a grand backdrop by this elegant 18th century manor.
The event was fully funded by Bruntwood; all the marshals and organisers gave up their time for free on the day itself and leading up to the event. So every penny raised will go directly to Bruntwood's pair of new chosen charities, Onside and The Factory. These charities were set up to build world-class, state-of-the-art centres called Youth Zones, which offer a place for young people to go and try out new experiences.
Bruntwood has a reputation for helping improve the cities in which it operates through sponsorship, civic initiatives and charity. Every year the company donates over 10 per cent of annual profits from meeting rooms, office space and retail space, in addition to money raised by regular fundraising projects. This results in a total of over £800,000 donated each year to support arts, civic and charitable causes and Bruntwood always tries to involve the occupiers of its offices.
In addition to providing financial donations, Bruntwood asks staff to give their time and expertise to good causes. Two days per year are offered to the employee to work in the local community through the Bruntwood Cares scheme.
