Bruntwood's offices in Liverpool refurbished
A new entrance and reception area to the value of £400,000 has been completed at one of Liverpool's most well-known office buildings.
The Cotton Exchange's new foyer, on Bixteth Street, was refurbished by family-owned commercial property company Bruntwood, who run the building. The new reception will benefit the 48 businesses currently based in the Grade II Listed structure.
Some of the building's historic characteristics, including the original internal domes, have been restored as part of Bruntwood's extensive renovation plan, while the reception area was moved around.
Focal point
Colin Forshaw, Head of Sales at Bruntwood, said: "The Cotton Exchange is one of the city's landmark commercial buildings and it now has a reception area worthy of its stature. When we embarked on the renovation project we intended to give the office a real heart and have triumphed in creating a contemporary focal point that is still in keeping with the Cotton Exchange's architecture. We are continuing to invest in the building and maintain its reputation as one of the most sought-after Liverpool offices on the market."
Previously the setting for lively and heated exchanges among Liverpool's cloth traders, the Cotton Exchange was built for that purpose in 1906. It made Liverpool the capital of the cotton trading world, with telephone lines and direct cables leading to New York, Bombay and Bremen. Office space was created in the late 1960s to replace the original decorative facade of the structure. Around the building, you can now spot the sculptures that once adorned that facade. A Portland Stone representation of Liverpool's The River Mersey is situated on Old Hall Street, while the figures of Navigation and Commerce stand in the courtyard.
Within, there are reminders of the building's intriguing history to be found everywhere, from the cotton emblems on Edmund Street to the columns of granite within some of the office space.

A customer service desk is situated on-site.
