Sponsoring cities
Each year Bruntwood gives 10% of profits to cultural initiatives in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool. From the Manchester International Festival and Bruntwood Playwriting Competition, to Tate Liverpool and the West Yorkshire Playhouse, the company has a long record of shaping UK cities through sponsorship. This is because Bruntwood believes that for cities to succeed, they need to offer more than a thriving commercial sector.
Bruntwood Cares
Through the Oglesby Charitable Trust, Bruntwood gives almost £700,000 each year to support more than fifty local charities. Every year, Bruntwood staff in Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Liverpool initiate fundraising events which produce an additional £130,000. Charity is an integral part of Bruntwood's core business, not least because customers and suppliers usually get involved too.
Employees are encouraged to donate their time and knowledge to good causes, as well as providing financial support. Every employee is entitled to work in the local community for two days a year, as part of the Bruntwood Cares programme. Projects have included helping young people keep fit at Manchester City Football Club, providing job coaching to the unemployed, and reading with children in a sponsored school.
Striving for sustainability
In an effort to create sustainable offices, Bruntwood has been refurbishing and recycling old office buildings for over 30 years. Establishing and maintaining green offices is now a deep-seated company priority.
