The DVD, entitled ‘We Care’, is designed to show that people from all backgrounds become foster carers. From the comfort of their own homes, foster carers talk about their experiences and the training and support they receive from Fostering Solutions. They talk about the care they provide for the children and young people and the pride they feel when a child or young person in their care achieves their goal.

Janet Cuffe, Service Manager with Fostering Solutions, feels the DVD will prove an invaluable aid for people who are deciding whether they should take the first steps towards becoming foster carers. “Anyone who’s interested in a career such as fostering needs to know what the role entails and the best people to tell them are our existing foster carers; they are the experts. We hope this DVD will enable people to make an informed choice to become a foster carer with Fostering Solutions”.

The release of the DVD is timed to coincide with the start of Foster Care Fortnight 2011 which runs from the 16th to 29th May. This year, Foster Care Fortnight’s theme is “Fostering: time to care”, highlighting the urgent need for more foster carers throughout the United Kingdom.

There is an estimated shortage of over 10,000 foster carers in the UK. Presently, in Scotland, England and Wales, there are an estimated 55,600 children and young people living with approximately 43,300 carers. Fostering Solutions hopes the DVD will encourage many more people, from all backgrounds, to join their existing foster carers to provide caring and supportive homes for some of the 10,000 children and young people who are in desperate need of their support.
