Irish children’s nursery chain Rascals will create 60 new jobs in South Belfast with the opening of its eighth day care centre in Dunmurry.

Prestige executive employment agency UK Knack Group’s managing director made the announcement this afternoon after speaking at the site with Rascals managing directors Roger and Lynne D’Arcy. They said, “At this day centre we’ll take in kiddies from only six weeks, and the centre will incorporate an ‘after-school club’. We felt there was a strong need for the site, because there are so many couples now who choose to work at weekends and someone has to be responsible for the littlies.”

Whitefield House in Upper Lisburn Road is being renovated and refurbished for the centre’s operation, and it will function as a base for Rascals’ occupational therapy division.

UK Knack Group’s managing director commented, “These new jobs, about 60-odd, will be both full-time and part-time, and Roger D’Arcy’s initiative will make Rascals the first nursery to open on a Saturday and meet this weekend need.

“They have about 700 children enrolled at the moment, and they’re looked after by a staff of 200. The new development in Dunmurry will want another 60-odd staff, which is great for local employment as our economy recovers, but especially it will mean vacancies for a further 140 children.”

D’Arcy said the recession had not affected his operation. Even though more parents had become redundant and had to stay home with their children, Rascals had emerged unscathed.
