The 12 year old, whose family live in Harnham, Salisbury, is currently studying and training full time at the Austrian Ski School, Skihauptschule, in Bad Gastein, Salzburg.
Christchurch’s Crown Decorating Centre, together with contract painting and decorating company Bell Group UK’s Salisbury branch, are raffling a bench manufactured entirely from the recycled plastic paint containers returned from Bell Group, to help with Ryan’s schooling and equipment costs.
Ryan has been studying and training in Austria for three years since first joining a Milton Keynes ski club in 2008.
After showing a raw talent for the sport, it was suggested by his coach that he try out for the Skihauptschule, which hosts annual auditions for aspiring skiers wanting the opportunity to study and train simultaneously.
Now a fully fledged pupil, a usual school day for Ryan starts at 8am and runs to 12pm, before picking up again at 4pm to 5pm of an evening.
Ryan trains from 1pm – 4pm every week day except Wednesdays, which is dedicated solely to normal lessons and from 6.30am to 1pm on weekends.
The only English speaking child in his class, Ryan can now speak fluent German - an added bonus to his time studying abroad.
Nicola Nash, Ryan’s mother, works at the Bell Group and approached the Christchurch Crown Decorating Centre requesting help for Ryan’s studies and training. She said: “The training he goes through is very intense.
“He requires new equipment every year and as he lives out there fully during term time it can become quite expensive.
“The Crown Decorating Centre has been very supportive of Ryan and kindly agreed to raffle one of their recycled benches to aid with the cost of his board and equipment.”
Denise Watson, manger of the Christchurch Crown Decorating Centre, said: “Raising this money for Ryan is something we are both pleased and proud to contribute towards.
“He has a very bright future ahead of him and anything we can do to help we are more than pleased to do so.”
The Christchurch Crown Decorating Centre based at unit 5, 2 Reid Street just off Fairmile Road, is open from 7.30am - 5pm Monday to Friday. It is also open 8am - 12pm Saturdays and from 8am – 2pm bank holidays. There is free parking available for all customers.
